Full birth certificates of the bride and groom. Both parties are usually required to provide full birth certificates. Short versions may not be accepted.

Certificate of No Impediment to Marry . Both the bride and groom may need to provide a Certificate of No Impediment to Marry. This document confirms that you are legally free to marry. It is usually issued by your local Registrar’s office and should not be issued more than 3 months before the wedding date.

Divorce certificate, if applicable. If either party has been divorced, a certified copy of the Decree Absolute must be presented.

Official name change document, if applicable. If either party has changed their name, an official name change document may be required.

Adoption certificate, if applicable. If either party has been adopted, an adoption certificate may be required.

Documents must be translated into Greek and certified by the Greek Embassy, Consulate or another authorized authority, depending on your country.

When applying for the marriage license, please do not mention that it is intended for use in Greece, as this may cause complications and they may refuse to issue it. It would be better simply to say that you are planning to get married. Please also keep in mind that obtaining a marriage license does not necessarily mean that you are required to use it.

Affidavit of Single Status. An Affidavit of Single Status may also be required. In some cases, no translation or apostille is required for this document.
